Ferry Artists Studio Visit – Nicola (Nicky) Coady
To keep our artisan community connected, Ferry Artist members enjoy regular member studio visits. These sessions offer a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and learn about our members’ creative practices. Our third studio visit featured Nicky Coady in February 2026. Nicky took us through her ceramics practice and discussed a variety of techniques and processes. Keep an eye out for our next studio visit.

Nicola Coady known as Nicky!
Arriving from Dartmouth, S. Devon, UK in the late 1966, my love of nature followed through from the rolling hills of Devon to the vast veldt of Africa to the weathered shores of Australia and into inspiration of my pottery over many years. I spoke about this to the lovely group who came to my Open Studio day and they saw how my pottery forms progress from slabs, to coils to thrown ware. Then onto glazing where I have all the base materials and formulate and mix my own glazes which are sieved several times and then applied and fired in my electric kiln. Depending on the aesthetics I require I do have access in the winter months to a great wood fired kiln near the Hunter Valley. We then shared some tea on my back veranda and then it was time to end the couple of hours together. Will also add that I graduated from TAFE at Brookvale in 1986 and then taught for 27 years at the Ku ring gai Art Centre in Roseville. Thanks for all that cam along. Nicky the Potter!!
Ferry Artists Studio Visit – REDHERRING
Our second visit featured REDHERRING in January 2026, a multi medium artist who works across ceramics, printmaking, stencilling and painting. Red shared the various processes behind his practice, from his early drawings to his future planned works. Keep an eye out for our next studio visit in February 2026!
